The Patient Sign-up Process
We're considering the best process for signing up patients to use Appointments Online. There is the tricky problem of ease of sign-up vs. security. Whilst we want to make it as easy as possible for patients to sign-up to use Appointments Online we also want to minimise the chance of someone abusing the system by registering as another person and hence gaining access to their information on the system.

Here are the options:

  1. Force the patient to present in person at the practice to request access to Appointments Online and prove their identity.

  2. Allow the patient to register for access online and then send them a letter with their login details to the home address registered on the practice system.

  3. Allow the patient to register for access online and have the Appointments Online system automatically send them their login details via email.

Which of these options should we support? Are there other methods that perhaps would be better?
Something for the weekend
It's been a while since the last post. So to make up for it here's a screenshot of the patient home page after logging into Appointments Online:

Patient Home Page

After successfully signing in the patient is presented with this personalised home page. At a glance the patient can see what their booked appointments are, what medications they have on repeat, any messages that they have left but are as yet undelivered to the practice and their personal details.
Patient Login

Patient Login Page

This is the page that the patient sees after choosing to login from the practice home page. The patient must supply their identifier and PIN code to continue to their home page.
Usage Statistics

Display Usage Statistics

This page gives you some basic statistics to help you understand how much the web appointments service is being used by your patients.
Viewing Patient Audit Trail

View Patient Audit Trail

This page lets you find a patient and display their audit trail. Appointments Online keeps an audit trail of all the actions that a patient has taken in case you need to resolve a query they may have.

Over the coming weeks we will be revealing some more information about Appointments Online. In this first post here is a screenshot of the initial patient welcome screen when visiting a practice's home page:
